- l-Propylene oxide
Propylene oxide is a chemical compound that has two types of functional groups, the hydroxyl group and the linear carbon-chain. The hydroxyl group is nucleophilic and can be used to react with other nucleophiles, such as thiolate. This reaction creates a new bond between the two molecules, which forms a new product. Propylene oxide is soluble in water, ethanol, ether and acetone. It also reacts with oxygen to form propylene glycol and hydrogen chloride gas. Propylene oxide is an excellent solvent for organic reactions because it does not react with most reagents.
