Palladium(II)(pi-cinnamyl) chloride dimer is a stable, soluble compound that can be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. Palladium(II)(pi-cinnamyl) chloride dimer is prepared by the allylation of chloropalladate ion with cinnamic acid. It can be purified by filtration and recrystallized from methanol or ethanol. Palladium(II)(pi-cinnamyl) chloride dimer has an orange color and a melting point of approximately 150 degrees Celsius. This compound is also soluble in lithium chloride, but not yellow.
