Description:

Phenylthiourea is a pharmaceutical preparation that can be used for the treatment of diarrhea and as an anesthetic. It has antidiarrheal, antihypertensive, and antiparasitic effects. The phenyl group in this compound is substituted with a nitrogen atom to give 1-phenyl-3-guanylthiourea, which is more potent than phenylthiourea. Phenylthiourea is also used as a precursor to the herbicide diquat.
