3-Phenylthiophene is a polymer film that is composed of monomers with dipole moments. 3-Phenylthiophene has been shown to have an inverse sol-gel transition in the presence of sodium sulfide and water. The morphology and optical properties of 3-phenylthiophene films are dependent on the concentration of monomer and temperature. It has a polarizability of 0.65 D, which can be analyzed using nmr spectra at room temperature. 3-Phenylthiophene has been used as an analytical method for β-unsaturated ketones, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and vibrational analysis.
