Product Information
- Phosphatidylethanolamines, swine brain
L-a-Phosphatidylethanolamine is a phospholipid with a phosphate group. It is the major phospholipid in cell membranes, accounting for about one third of all the lipids. L-a-Phosphatidylethanolamine has been used to visualize proton gradients and cytosolic pH in living cells by electron microscopy. This technique has also been used to detect an increase in the number of di-4-anepps (2,3 diacylphosphoglycerides) at the plasma membrane of Escherichia coli cells that have been induced to express L-a-phosphatidylethanolamine synthase. The use of L-a-phosphatidylethanolamine as a substrate for protein synthesis has also been shown to enhance enzyme activity and yield higher levels of protein synthesis than other substrates, such as phosphatidylcholine or phosphatidylser
