Product Information

Name:
Parasin I
Description:

Parasin I is a model system that has been used to study antimicrobial peptides. Parasin I is an antimicrobial peptide that belongs to the group of cationic antimicrobials. It has been shown to have hemolytic activity and a broad-spectrum of antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). Parasin I binds to the receptor molecule on the surface of cells, disrupting its function and leading to cell death. Parasin I has also been shown to be effective against Pichia pastoris, which is a yeast species used in industry for the production of erythromycin. The monoclonal antibody produced by this organism binds to the same receptor as parasin I, inhibiting parasin binding and preventing cell death.
