Peptide YY (PYY) is a peptide hormone that is produced in the pancreas and has a number of functions in the body. It has been shown to have an important role in the regulation of appetite, digestion, and metabolism. PYY is present at nanomolar concentrations in intestinal fluid, pancreatic juice, and other fluids. Functional studies on guinea pigs have shown that PYY stimulates adenylate cyclase activity in the intestine, leading to increased levels of cyclic AMP. This increase leads to an inhibition of gastric acid secretion and a decrease in motility. PYY also decreases food intake by inhibiting gastric emptying and reduces appetite by stimulating satiety centres in the brain.br>br>
Porcine pancreatic PYY can be used as a marker for tissue damage or inflammation due to its high specificity for pancreatic tissue. It may also be used as a marker for monitoring the efficacy of surgical procedures or therapies
