Picfeltarraenin IV is a natural compound extracted from the Chinese medicine preparation, Picfeltarraenin. It has inhibitory activities against tumor cells and can be used to treat cancer. Picfeltarraenin IV inhibits telomerase activity and induces apoptosis in tumor cells by inhibiting the synthesis of RNA and protein, thereby leading to cell death. It also has inhibitory effects on bacterial growth by binding to the ribosome. Picfeltarraenin IV also has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
