3-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-2-propenoyl chloride is a tertiary organic compound. It has been synthesised as a photochromic compound and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. 3-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-2-propenoyl chloride can be formed by the photoisomerization of 3-benzoyloxy-2,5,6-trimethylpyridine (1) by irradiation with ultraviolet light. There are two isomers of this compound: one isomer absorbs ultraviolet light at 370 nm and transmits it at 400 nm, while the other absorbs UV light at 380 nm and transmits it at 390 nm.
