Pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid is a supramolecular compound that contains a pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid moiety. It has been shown to form hydrogen bonds with metal surfaces and coordination complexes with metal ions. Pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid has been observed to form gel networks in the presence of malonic acid or pyridinedicarboxylic acid. The supramolecular chemistry of this compound has been studied by x-ray absorption spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid is also a functional group that can be found in carboxylates like lactic acid.
