Pentafluorotungsten is a reactive heavy metal that has been shown to cause neuronal death in vitro by attacking the epidermal growth factor receptor, thereby inhibiting cell growth. Pentafluorotungsten also inhibits nucleophilic attack on molybdenum and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, leading to the activation of an inflammatory response. Monoclonal antibodies have been developed for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. These antibodies are usually generated from mice that have been immunized with human cells. The optical system is used to measure the waveform of a signal generated by the antibody against a specific antigen. The waveform can be used to distinguish among different types of antibodies, such as those reactive with bacterial biotransformation or aromatic hydrocarbons. In addition, pentafluorotungsten has been shown to be a potent growth factor in vivo and in vitro, which may be due to its ability to activate protein kinase C.
