1,1,2,2,3-Pentafluoropropane is a hydrofluorocarbon that is used as a refrigerant and a propellant. It is a colorless gas with a pungent odor and is chemically stable in the absence of moisture. The molecule consists of six carbon atoms and eight fluorine atoms. The boiling point for 1,1,2,2,3-pentafluoropropane is -14 °C (-25 °F) at atmospheric pressure. This chemical has been shown to be nonflammable in air below its flashpoint. At higher temperatures (>400°C), it will decompose into hydrogen fluoride and fluoromethane. 1,1,2,2,3-Pentafluoropropane vaporizes at 3.5 mm Hg (0 psi) at normal temperature and pressure (NTP).
