Pentafluorophenylglycolic acid is a pharmaceutical preparation that is used as a regulatory agent for the synthesis of bisulphite-resistant pyridine compounds. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of viruses and enteroviruses, including poliovirus, coxsackievirus B3, and rotavirus. Pentafluorophenylglycolic acid also has antiviral activity against feline panleukopenia virus (FPV). Pentafluorophenylglycolic acid is an active substance that can be found in pentafluorophenol. It inhibits the enzyme dehydrogenase and blocks the synthesis of furyl groups, which are necessary for viral replication. Pentafluorophenylglycolic acid also blocks chloride channels in cell membranes and prevents virus entry into cells by blocking fusion of the virus with the cell membrane.
