Potassium Hexafluorotantalate is a high melting point, soluble salt that is used in the coatings industry. It is applied as an electrolyte for electroplating, and as a fluxing agent in the production of tantalum wire. The eutectic composition of Potassium Hexafluorotantalate is approximately 50% potassium hexafluorotantalate and 50% potassium pentafluoro-tantalate. The reaction product includes potassium chloride, potassium fluoride, and tantalum metal oxide. Potassium Hexafluorotantalate has been shown to be beneficial for the production of porous materials because it can be dissolved in alkali metal chlorides to form a homogeneous solution.
