Poly(2'-deoxy-2'-fluoroinosinic acid) (FIA) is a synthetic polymer that has been shown to be highly water-soluble and stable in biological systems. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation and fluoresces, which makes it useful for the detection of DNA and RNA. FIA is also an excellent electron-accepting material that has been used as an insulator in silicon-based electronics and as a conjugate to polymers. Polymer conjugates containing FIA have been found to be effective in diagnosing human serum samples with leukemia cells.
