Phenylselanyl Trifluoromethanesulfonate (PS) is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of stilbene derivatives. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is responsible for tuberculosis. PS inhibits the synthesis of glycosidic bonds in disaccharides and oligosaccharides by reacting with hydroxy groups of sugar molecules. The reaction mechanism is stereoselective and uses a benzyl group to control the configuration at C-2 of the sugar molecule.
