The compound N-(2-Pyridinylmethyl)-2,5-bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)benzamide is a crystalline solid that can be used as a synthetic intermediate in the preparation of flecainide. It has been found to catalyze hydrogenation of benzoic acid and yields 2,5-bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)benzoic acid in good yields. The compound also catalyzes the hydrogenation of anhydrides with a solvent mixture. The crystalline solid is soluble in chloroform and dichloromethane and has been purified using workup with hydrochloric acid.
