Quinoxyfen is a control agent that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. It is used in industry and agriculture as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) inhibitor. Quinoxyfen inhibits bacteria by binding to the beta subunit of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby blocking RNA synthesis and transcription. This property has been shown using an acetate extraction method with dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE). The high resistance of Quinoxyfen against bacterial mutants has been demonstrated using solid phase microextraction (SPME) coupled with GC/MS analysis. The synergistic effect of Quinoxyfen has been observed when combined with other active substances such as cefixime or erythromycin. These drugs have been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in vitro and in vivo.
