Quinupramine is a tricyclic antidepressant drug that is used to treat depression and anxiety. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease, as well as infectious diseases such as cystitis. Quinupramine modulates the activity of adenosine receptors, which are found in the central nervous system and immune cells. In addition, it inhibits cholinergic transmission by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Quinupramine has also been shown to have immunosuppressive properties by inhibiting cytokine synthesis in rat liver microsomes.
