2-Quinolinecarboxaldehyde is a fluorescent probe that reacts with copper chloride in an aqueous solution to form a red-colored compound. 2-Quinolinecarboxaldehyde is used as an x-ray crystal structure, which is used to study the 3D arrangement of atoms. It also has shown anti-cancer properties by reacting with copper ions in the body to produce reactive oxygen species that damage DNA and result in cancer cell death. 2-Quinolinecarboxaldehyde has been shown to bind to human serum albumin and may be useful for detecting autoimmune diseases such as diabetes mellitus or rheumatoid arthritis. 2-Quinolinecarboxaldehyde can be classified as a group P2 nitrogen heterocycle with intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions.
