Quinaldine is a quinone that is used as an antifungal agent. Quinaldine is synthesized by the reaction of anthranilic acid with trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of hydrogen bonding interactions. It has been shown to have in vitro antifungal activity against Candida albicans and other fungi. The synthesis of quinaldine is carried out in an aqueous solution, which produces water-soluble products that can be easily removed from the reaction vessel. Quinaldine reacts with cortisol to form a complex, which can be used for the treatment of hypercortisolism and adrenal insufficiency. The reaction mechanism for this process has been studied using titration calorimetry and fluorescence probe studies. Quinaldine also regulates transcription through coordination geometry interactions with DNA bases.
