(Quinolin-2-yl)methanol is a quinoline derivative that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to adenosine receptors. It is a potent and selective inhibitor of human cytomegalovirus replication, which may be due to its ability to inhibit viral DNA synthesis. (Quinolin-2-yl)methanol also has shown antiinflammatory properties in mice, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. (Quinolin-2-yl)methanol is an enantiomeric mixture with a chiral center on the hydroxyl group at position 2. The analytical method for this compound is based on the use of UV spectroscopy in conjunction with an asymmetric synthesis procedure.
