Quinovin is a glycoside derivative that belongs to the group of surfactants. It utilizes calcium ions from the environment as a co-surfactant and has been shown to have potent cytotoxicity against various cancer cell lines. This compound has been found to be significantly inhibitory against natural inhibitors of glucopyranoside, which are glycosides that inhibit the enzyme α-glucosidase, thereby preventing digestion of carbohydrates. The mechanism of action for Quinovin is not well understood but it is believed that micelles form when Quinovin binds with water, leading to an increase in surface area and subsequent adsorption of hydrophobic substances on the surface.
