(S)-Quinculidine-3-amine is a quinuclidine amine that acts as a serotonin receptor antagonist. It has been shown to block the binding of serotonin to its receptors, which inhibits the synthesis and release of neurotransmitters in the brain. The racemic mixture of (S)-Quinculidine-3-amine is synthesized from 4-(2-chloroethyl)morpholine and thionyl chloride. Impurities in the product are removed by recrystallization, resulting in a pure white solid with a melting point of 178°C. This process can be recycled to produce more (S)-Quinculidine-3-amine.
