8-Quinolinyl trifluoromethanesulfonate is a drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of epidermoid carcinoma cells. It is an analog of quinolones. 8-Quinolinyl trifluoromethanesulfonate binds to the drug target site on tubulin, which is required for cell division, and prevents polymerization into microtubules. The compound also inhibits the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria, leading to decreased mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis. This drug has been shown to have no effect on normal human skin fibroblasts or human erythrocytes in vitro.
