Rac 5-desfluoro voriconazole is a synthetic compound with the molecular formula CHClFO. Rac 5-desfluoro voriconazole is synthesized by the reaction of phosphorus oxychloride and carbon tetrachloride in a vessel with methyl alcohol, zinc powder, ammonium formate, and formamidine acetate. The compound was first reported in 1994 by Robert L. Hovis at DuPont Central Research and Development (CCRD) in Wilmingtion, Delaware. It is used as an intermediate for other organic synthesis methods. Rac 5-desfluoro voriconazole is also used to produce rac 5-chloro voriconazole and rac 5-methyl voriconazole.
