Product Information

Name:
rac methotrimeprazine sulfoxide
Synonyms:
  • 2-Methoxy-N,N,b-trimethyl-10H-phenothiazine-10-propanamine 5-oxide
Description:

Racetam is a class of drug that includes the neurotransmitter dopamine. It is used to treat muscle spasms, as well as psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Racetam has been shown to cross the blood-brain barrier and inhibit the enzyme dopamine decarboxylase in humans. The sulfoxide group is chemically reactive and can be reduced back to the parent compound by glutathione or other sulfoxidases. This reactivity is also associated with its ability to form heterocyclic compounds. Racetam binds to receptors in the intestinal cells, which may account for its effects on these tissues.
