Rac N-didemethyl dapoxetine is a prodrug of dapoxetine, which is a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5). Rac N-didemethyl dapoxetine has been shown to be more potent than racemic dapoxetine in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Rac N-didemethyl dapoxetine has been shown to be effective and well tolerated in clinical trials with up to 3,600 patients. The drug was found to be statistically superior to tadalafil, with a greater effect on sexual function and overall satisfaction. It also leads to an increased number of successful sexual events per month. The drug was developed by Eli Lilly and Company and is marketed under the name Priligy in many countries outside the United States.
