Description:

Rac-4-Benzyloxy-3-nitrostyrene oxide is an alkylating agent, which has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of DNA synthesis. Rac-4-Benzyloxy-3-nitrostyrene oxide reacts with DNA by forming covalent bonds with the nucleophilic oxygen atoms on the deoxyribose sugar ring. It can also react with the nitro group in DNA to form a stable adduct that inhibits DNA replication and transcription. Rac-4-Benzyloxy-3-nitrostyrene oxide has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in cultures of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
