Product Information
- 5-(1-Methyl-2-piperidinyl)-2,3'-bipyridine(+/-)-Anabasamine
Anabasamine is a natural compound that belongs to the heterocycle class. It has been shown to inhibit glutathione-S-transferase (GSH-Px) activities in animal experiments and to have an antimicrobial effect against influenza virus. Anabasamine has also been shown to be active against autoimmune diseases and other conditions such as cholinergic dysfunction, neuritis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Anabasamine is structurally related to noranabasmine, which is a drug used for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Noranabasamine is synthesized from anabaseine by the enzyme acetylcholine esterase. This enzyme converts anabaseine into noranabasmine through deacetylation. Racemic anabaseine can be converted into racemic anabasmine using a chromatographic method with silica gel as the stationary phase.
