Description:
Losartan is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks the angiotensin II receptor and competitively inhibits the binding of angiotensin I to type 1 receptors. This drug has been shown to have antihypertensive activity in humans and is used for treatment of high blood pressure. Losartan has also been shown to reduce cough frequency, which may be due to its ability to suppress the synthesis of vasoactive substances, such as angiotensin. Losartan-d4 is a prodrug that is metabolized into losartan, its active form. It is used for imaging studies of the kidney and heart using positron emission tomography (PET).
