Description:
Strontium nitrate is a chemical compound with the formula Sr(NO). It is a white solid, but samples are often colored due to impurities. Strontium nitrate is stable in dry air, but reacts with water to release strontium hydroxide and nitrous oxide. It is used as a fertilizer and in fireworks. The anhydrous salt has been used as a source of high-energy particles for kinetic energy weapons such as the BAE Systems "Excalibur". This salt can also be used as a reaction solution in chemical reactions involving hydroxyapatite or calcium carbonate.
The biological effects of this salt in humans are not well understood.
