Strontium peroxide is a light-emitting compound that can be used as a disinfectant. It emits light when it reacts with fatty acids. Strontium peroxide is also an antimicrobial agent, which can be used to kill bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to have low toxicity in animal studies, and the reaction mechanism is not well understood. Strontium peroxide can produce calcium stearate and lanthanum chloride in the presence of hydrochloric acid and chlorates, respectively. These compounds are then oxidized by hydrogen peroxide to form water vapor and free radicals that react with organic matter, leading to its disinfecting properties.
