Alpha-substance IB is a synthetic hexapeptide that is derived from the bitter peptide tulip. Alpha-substance IB has been shown to have agglutination activity in plant leaves and also displays a bitter taste. This peptide was synthesized by the chemical synthesis of an alpha-amino acid, which was then coupled with a beta-amino acid to form a hexapeptide. The synthesis of this compound is based on the chemical data collected from the natural bitter peptides tulip and
agglutinin.
