Description

Sodium o,o-diisobutyldithiophosphate is an organophosphorus compound that is a colorless liquid with a mild odor. It is used in industry as a corrosion inhibitor, and it has been found to be effective in preventing environmental pollution. It reacts with hydrochloric acid to form sodium carbonate and hydrogen chloride gas, which are environmentally benign products. Sodium o,o-diisobutyldithiophosphate reacts with organic solvents such as benzene to form the corresponding phosphite ester. This reaction also produces molybdenum oxide and zinc sulfate, which are insoluble in water. The primary target of this compound is the viscosity of the solution it is dissolved in; however, it can also react with alkali metals or phosphites.
