Selenic acid is a compound that is found in trace amounts in the environment. It has been shown to have a number of biological effects, including the inhibition of 3t3-l1 preadipocytes proliferation and the destruction of bacterial cells. Selenic acid has also been shown to bind to metal hydroxides and form insoluble precipitates. This compound has been shown to be nontoxic to wild-type strains, although it inhibits their growth at higher concentrations. Selenic acid binds to plasma proteins and can be detected using plasma mass spectrometry. It also forms disulfide bonds with basic fibroblasts, which can be detected by structural analysis.
