Description

Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI) is a sodium salt that is an ingredient in many toiletry and pharmaceutical preparations. SCI has been shown to have skin-moisturizing properties, which may be related to its ability to reduce the water content of the stratum corneum by interacting with the skin surface. It also has been used as a vehicle for other ingredients such as glycol ethers and ethylene diamine. In addition, SCI has been shown to be a free radical scavenger and can protect against lipid peroxidation by reacting with peroxyl radicals.
