Sodium taurohyodeoxycholate hydrate has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines, such as colony-stimulating factor and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), in vitro. This chemical can also be used as a reagent for cell lysis. Sodium taurohyodeoxycholate hydrate is active against bacteria, including gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and gram-negative bacteria, such as Acinetobacter baumannii and Escherichia coli.
