Silicon 2,3-naphthalocyanine bis(trihexylsilyloxide) is a luminescent probe that is used as an optical imaging agent for tumor tissue. It has been shown to be effective for determining the area of tumor tissue and for monitoring the efficacy of cancer treatments in animal models. Silicon 2,3-naphthalocyanine bis(trihexylsilyloxide) has also been used to monitor the progression of liver cancer in animals by measuring tumor vasculature and fluorescence resonance. This molecule is reactive with deionized water, which makes it a good candidate for use as an imaging agent in biological studies. Silicon 2,3-naphthalocyanine bis(trihexylsilyloxide) reacts with oxygen at a rate that is dependent on its concentration. This reaction can be used to measure reaction rates in vitro.
