Sematilide is a drug that belongs to the class of cation channel blockers. It is indicated for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, as well as for the treatment of bowel disease. Sematilide blocks the voltage-gated sodium channels in cardiac and vascular tissues, which inhibits the action potential and slows conduction velocity. In vitro studies have shown that sematilide has low potency and causes a decrease in intracellular calcium levels, which may be related to its anti-inflammatory effects.
