Product Information

Name:
Sodium 2-methylbenzenesulfonate
Synonyms:
  • Sodium o-toluenesulfonate
  • Sodiumortho-Toluenesulphonate
Description:

Sodium 2-methylbenzenesulfonate is a detergent additive that is used in the formulation of detergent compositions. It is a sodium salt that has been shown to be effective against infectious diseases and works by disrupting the cell membrane, which leads to cell death. Sodium 2-methylbenzenesulfonate also has antimicrobial properties and can be used as an antiseptic agent. This product can be combined with hydrochloric acid, sodium carbonate, glycol ethers, cationic polymers, and cationic surfactants to produce a new type of detergent composition.
Fluidized bed reactors are often used for this process because the high values for hydrodynamic shear stress allow for rapid polymerization of cationic surfactants. The use of co2 flow allows for the production of high quality products at low cost.
