Sodium perchlorate is a salt of sodium and perchlorate. It is used in analytical chemistry because it reacts with basic proteins to form the perchlorate anion, which can be quantified by titration with a standard base. Sodium perchlorate has been shown to cause hepatic steatosis in rats by inhibiting fatty acid oxidation. This drug also has dna binding activity and can bind to human serum albumin. The analytical method for measuring levels of sodium perchlorate in blood involves electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and an electrochemical detector.
