S-Butyl s-p-tert-butylbenzyl 3-pyridylimidodithiocarbonate (BPTBI) is a chemical control agent that inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol and fatty acids by competitively inhibiting the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase. BPTBI has been shown to be effective in plant physiology experiments. It blocks the conversion of acetoacetate into acetyl CoA in both wild type and knockout strains of Arabidopsis thaliana, leading to an increase in leaf chlorophyll content. BPTBI also has a number of crystalline polymorphs which have different solubilities in different solvents.
