Sulfadoxine-d3 is a synthetic drug that belongs to the group of sulfonamides. It is used as a co-trimoxazole, an antibiotic medication that can be used to prevent and treat some bacterial infections. Sulfadoxine-d3 has been shown to be effective against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. This drug also has been shown to inhibit the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, which is required for the production of folic acid, in bacteria. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to reduced synthesis of purines and pyrimidines, which are important for RNA and DNA synthesis. The assay validation is performed by using carbamazepine, which inhibits the bacterial enzyme dihydropteroate synthase.
