Trisodium trithiocyanurate hydrate is an additive in the production of peroxides. It is used in the process of hydrogen peroxide production from ammonia and sodium carbonate. Trisodium trithiocyanurate hydrate reacts with ammonium formate to produce hydrogen peroxide, as well as with thiourea to produce hydroxylamine, which reacts with aqueous hydrogen chloride to form hydrochloric acid. Trisodium trithiocyanurate hydrate has been shown to exist in four polymorphs: monoclinic, tetragonal, orthorhombic, and hexagonal. The reaction between this compound and sulfuric acid produces a proton that can be monitored using mass spectrometry. The nature of the reactive groups present on this compound are C-N-C-N-O.
