Product Information
Spiro[2.5]octan-5-one is a cyclopentenone that is nonconjugated and has a triplet ground state. It reacts with hydrogen at temperatures of -78°C to form an n-hexane solution, which can be used as a catalyst for reactions involving dienes. The reaction products are cycloalkanones, which are hydrolyzed by water to yield the corresponding hydrocarbons in high yields. Spiro[2.5]octan-5-one has been shown to react with oxygen at room temperature, forming a triplet excited state product and yielding the corresponding ketone in low yields.
