Sulfo-ara-F-NMN is a potent activator of the intrinsic apoptotic pathway. It binds to the cyclic adenosine diphosphate ribose (cADPR) receptor and activates caspases, leading to cell death by activating an intrinsic apoptotic pathway. This compound has been shown to be non-apoptotic in cells that do not contain mitochondria or have been treated with peroxynitrite. Sulfo-ara-F-NMN is also an endogenous metabolite that functions as a conformational catalyst for catalysis and dimerization of ADP-ribose.
