Product Information

Name:
Sodium (2-sulfonatoethyl)methanethiosulfonate
Synonyms:
  • 2-[(Methylsulfonyl)thio]ethanesulfonic acid sodium saltMTSES
Description:

Sodium (2-sulfonatoethyl)methanethiosulfonate is a cytosolic calcium ionophore that was found to inhibit sugar transport in the presence of an erythrocyte membrane. It binds to the alpha 1 subunit of the sodium-dependent glucose transporter. Sodium (2-sulfonatoethyl)methanethiosulfonate also inhibits cation channels, which are important for cell membrane potential, and has an inhibitory effect on tissue culture cells. This drug is not reversible, but it does have a regulatory domain that can be used for drug design.
