Solanesyl bromide is a pharmaceutical preparation that has been used as an antiseptic and disinfectant. It is a hydroxy aromatic hydrocarbon with a hydroxyl group on one end and a methoxy group on the other. Solanesyl bromide is soluble in nonpolar solvents such as benzene, carbon tetrachloride, and ether. It can be used to treat infectious diseases by attacking bacterial cell membranes and interfering with their function. Solanesyl bromide can also be used to treat cancer cells by causing them to undergo apoptosis.
