Sulfo-N-succinimidyl3-[[2-(p-azidosalicylamido)ethyl]-1,3'-dithio]propionate is a biochemical that binds to human proteins and can be used to detect the presence of staphylococcus in urine. It is also used to study metabolic disorders. Sulfo-N-succinimidyl3-[(2-[p-[azidosalicylamido]ethyl]-1,3'-dithio]propionate reacts with the sulfhydryl groups of human serum albumin and other proteins. This reaction is irreversible, so the protein can be detected by using specific antibody or by sample preparation methods that are acidic. Sulfo-N-succinimidyl3-[(2-[p-[azidosalicylamido]ethyl]-1,3'-dithio]propionate can also be used as a diagnostic tool
